A thousand thank you’s to all involved: our faculty advisors Paolo Carpignano and Shannon Mattern, the Media Studies Department, our keynotes Wendy Chun and Clay Shirky, everyone who attended, and of course, all of our presenters!

Loads of great presentations, conversations and general exchanges of ideas all around.

Since this question has been asked a few times now, it makes sense to take a moment to respond here: Critical Themes 2011 will be free and open to the public, and no registration is necessary to attend! Just show up on Friday or Saturday.

If, however, you feel so inclined, registering for our event on Facebook will help give us some estimate of attendance: Critical Themes on Facebook.

And as the event approaches, please check back here, or follow us on Twitter, for all news and updates.

Thanks, and see you at Critical Themes!

We’ve just finished finalizing our schedule, including all panel and session groupings. whew! That was tough. Please check it out:

http://criticalthemes.net/2011/sessions/

Some bits are still TBA, but that is nearly complete. We’re very excited about the lineup!

So please check out our presenter bios and their abstracts. Some of our scholars have provided “Supplementary materials” which you’ll find linked beneath their abstracts.

Also, we’ve enabled comments on each of the panel pages in the hopes of catalyzing some discussions before, during, and after the event. So have a look at those materials and if you feel so inclined, please share any questions or reflections you may have in the comments section!

Thanks and see you all soon!

We are delighted, pleased, and absolutely thrilled to be launching the website for the 11th annual Critical Themes in Media Studies!

The conference will be taking place April 15-16, at The New School in New York City.

It is going to be a great one this year! Have a look at our full schedule of events to see what’s planned, including our wonderful keynote presenters whom we are all excited about, an excellent opening night panel discussion, and of course, our esteemed student presenters, hailing from 17 different universities and 5 countries.

You can also follow along on twitter. We will be tweeting regular announcements from our @criticalthemes account, and any tweets to @criticalthemes or referencing the #criticalthemes hashtag will be pulled in to the sidebar at the right-hand side (as well as archived here on our site for future reference).

We are currently in the process of collecting abstracts from all our presenters and finalizing our panel groupings. As we do that, we will enable comments on those and we hope to spark some exciting discussions here on the site, both in advance of, during, and after the actual event!

As I write this, many details are still being sorted out, so please check back here for updates as they materialize.

See you at Critical Themes!
