Rory Solomon
Rory Solomon is an artist and software engineer. Using open source software, he has developed database-backed websites for Bank Street College of Education, the New York Review of Books, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Red Hat (formerly ArsDigita) among others. Currently he is the Tech Lead for the Urban Research Tool: a web-based mapping platform for geo-spatial research in use by several projects at the New School. He has collaborated with Ken Goldberg, Marek Walczak, Margot Lovejoy and others on art projects featured in the Whitney Biennial, the Berkely Art Musuem, and the National Art Museum of China. His artwork explores relationships between real and virtual architectures, and media of collaborative subjective expression. His research projects include an exploration of databases as cemeteries, as well as a media archaeology of the computer program and “the stack”. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Media Studies at the New School.
